What it is
Dayforce (formerly Ceridian) sells a single-database HCM suite: payroll, time and attendance, scheduling, benefits, and talent management, including a recruiting module. It is built for employers with large hourly and shift-based workforces: retail, hospitality, healthcare, and manufacturing. Dayforce reported 7,025 customers live on the platform at 30 September 2025, its last public count. Thoma Bravo closed a roughly $12.3B take-private on 4 February 2026, with a minority stake from an Abu Dhabi Investment Authority subsidiary. The stock was delisted from the NYSE and TSX. The company still sells under the Dayforce name, and David Ossip remains CEO.
Dayforce Recruiting covers requisitions, career sites, job posting, an applicant tracker, offers, and a handoff into onboarding on the same employee record that payroll and scheduling use. The AI that matters for hiring is candidate grading, sold only with the Recruiting Plus add-on. Dayforce’s help documentation says the system assigns a grade to each external applicant at the time of application. It starts by matching the application to the job description and years of experience. Once a requisition has enough history, usually about 20 candidates moved forward and 20 declined before interview, it learns from your past decisions. Names are removed before scoring, internal candidates are not graded, and grades are hidden for candidates who live in New York City. Customers cannot change the scoring factors.
The Dayforce AI agents announced at Discover in October 2025 include a job description agent, alongside pay, time-off, and content-authoring agents. We found no Dayforce-built agent that screens, interviews, or schedules candidates. That work goes to partners such as Humanly, Alex, and the texting vendor Emissary. Discover 2026 runs 26–29 October, so check for new recruiting announcements before you sign.
This page answers one question: we run Dayforce for payroll and scheduling, so do we still need Paradox or Humanly for high-volume hiring?
Why it shows up in hourly-hiring stacks
- One record from applicant to first paycheck. A hire in Dayforce Recruiting becomes the employee that Dayforce schedules, tracks time for, and pays. Nothing has to sync. That matters most when you hire hundreds of people a month across locations, and every failed integration means a new hire is missing from the first schedule.
- The grading uses your own history. Candidate grading learns from which applicants your recruiters moved forward on each requisition. For a chain hiring the same store-associate role at many sites, that history builds quickly.
- Partner ecosystem for the conversational layer. Humanly publishes a Dayforce write-back integration, Paradox lists Dayforce among its integrations, and texting and screening vendors such as Emissary and Alex connect to it. Dayforce is a common system of record under a separate front-end conversational tool.
Pricing reality
Dayforce publishes no prices. Vendr’s Ceridian/Dayforce page reports a median contract of $92,629 a year across 33 deals, with a range of $18,862 to $663,800 (checked 20 October 2026). Vendr says talent management, including recruiting, is billed as an incremental per-employee-per-month (PEPM) charge on top of core HCM. OutSail’s July 2026 guide puts total Dayforce software at $22–31 PEPM, and implementation at 40–60% of the annual software fee. OutSail positions the product for companies from about 350 to 5,000 employees.
Worked example: a 2,000-employee retailer at $25 PEPM pays about $600,000 a year for the suite, plus $240,000–360,000 to implement it. Recruiting Plus is a slice of that number. Get it quoted as a separate line item, or you cannot compare it against a standalone conversational tool.
Best for
Talent acquisition leads at 1,000–20,000-employee hourly-heavy employers (multi-site retail, restaurants, hospitals, logistics) that already run payroll and scheduling on Dayforce and want one system of record for requisitions, applicants, and hires. Concretely: a 4,000-person grocery chain posting the same cashier and stocker requisitions in 60 stores, with recruiters who already decline most applicants in Dayforce.
Not for you if your applicants drop off before they finish an application. Dayforce Recruiting grades applications after they are submitted. It does not run a chat that screens, answers questions, and books an interview at 11 p.m. on a phone. That front end is what Paradox and Humanly sell.
Versus the alternatives
Paradox is the best-known conversational hourly-hiring platform, and Workday has owned it since October 2025. Pick it when time from applying to interview is your bottleneck and you can accept a Workday-owned roadmap. Confirm the depth of its Dayforce connector in writing, because Paradox’s named, branded integrations are for Workday and SAP SuccessFactors. Humanly is the fastest-growing independent alternative, with a $25M Series B led by SEEK Investments in May 2026 and a published Dayforce integration. Pick Humanly over Paradox if you want a conversational layer that no competing HCM suite owns.
UKG is Dayforce’s closest suite rival. It has built conversational hourly hiring into the suite as UKG Rapid Hire, based on its Chattr acquisition. Workday is the enterprise pick when salaried and corporate hiring dominate. Neither is a reason to move payroll for recruiting alone.
Fountain and Workstream are standalone hourly-hiring platforms. Pick one when hiring is managed in the field, by store or site managers, rather than by a central TA team.
Watch-outs
- Grading needs history, and you cannot tune it. New requisitions are graded on job-description match alone until they reach about 20 positive and 20 negative decisions. If your recruiters’ past declines were biased, the model learns that bias. You also cannot change its factors. Guard: run an adverse-impact check on the grades by requisition family before recruiters filter on them. Write the job-description disclosure that Dayforce’s own guidance mentions where your jurisdiction requires it. Remember that NYC Local Law 144 requires a bias audit for tools that rank candidates.
- The conversational front end costs extra. Dayforce sells no native screening chat, so high-volume teams usually pay for Paradox, Humanly, or a texting vendor on top. Guard: before signing for Recruiting Plus, price that partner alongside it and compare the combined cost per hire with UKG Rapid Hire.
- Private-equity ownership weakens your position at renewal. Since February 2026 Dayforce no longer publishes quarterly results, so customer counts and product investment are no longer disclosed. Guard: on 3–5-year renewals, write price-increase caps and data-export rights into the order form now. Do not rely on the next earnings call to warn you about changes.
