When to evaluate ZoomInfo
ZoomInfo supplies B2B company and contact data for prospecting and enrichment. Its API product page distinguishes search and enrichment from bulk subscriptions, website-visitor data and other API families. Access to one does not establish access to all.
Evaluate it when RevOps needs company/contact enrichment and wants to assess related intent or account-research capabilities in the same vendor evaluation. Start with the fields and actions your process needs. Do not buy another database if your current provider already meets those requirements at an acceptable cost.
Packages and the quote to request
The official pricing page lists Professional, Copilot Advanced and Copilot Enterprise for Sales. Professional includes contact/company search and export; Advanced adds capabilities including intent and website visitors; Enterprise adds custom intent and custom integrations. These are package descriptions, not confirmation of your account’s entitlements.
No dollar rate was visible on the pricing page reviewed. ZoomInfo identifies functionality, licenses, credits and add-ons as pricing factors. Request a written quote for the exact seats, data fields, modules, integrations and API access you need. Include credit allowances, additional usage, billing period, renewal terms and export rights. Comparing quotes with different scopes will not establish which provider costs less.
MCP and API: availability is account-specific
ZoomInfo has an MCP server at https://mcp.zoominfo.com/mcp. It uses OAuth and requires a compatible Streamable HTTP client plus a licensed GTM.ai self-serve or Enterprise account. Plan permissions, API limits and credits still apply. The setup documentation explicitly requires disabling AI model training in the client before connecting.
The MCP tool list distinguishes search from enrichment and account/contact research. Search tools are listed without a credit charge; enrichment uses bulk data credits, while research uses AI action credits. This does not make the account or every operation free. Approve the records and expected credit use before an agent enriches a whole result set.
For a direct API integration, the app setup guide requires a license with API access, an application and appropriate OAuth scopes. Enterprise customers also need Developer Portal access. Confirm the required endpoint with your administrator before building around it. A 403 calls for checking scopes, entitlements and package access, not repeated retries; see the usage and limits documentation.
An operator evaluation worksheet
The following is a proposed evaluation, not a test ooligo has run. Set acceptance criteria and a spending cap before querying either provider. Use the same fixed sample for ZoomInfo and your current source; keep missing results in the denominator.
| Decision | What to record | Acceptance check |
|---|---|---|
| Does it cover our ICP? | Requested and returned records by country, industry and company size | Required fields meet your predeclared threshold in each important segment |
| Are the matches usable? | Company domain, person/company match, current role, missing or conflicting fields | Independently review matches; route unresolved conflicts to manual review |
| Does it add useful data? | Accepted new or corrected records versus duplicates already in the CRM | Count incremental accepted records separately from all returned records |
| Can we operate it? | Actual credits, access errors, review minutes and export behavior | Verify the intended account and integration, not only a sales demo |
Compare costs over the same period: allocated subscription + extra credits + verification + review labor, divided by accepted records. Include money spent on rejected records. Also calculate cost per incremental accepted record; replacing an existing valid field is different from filling a gap. If no records qualify, report that result rather than a finite unit cost.
Alternatives and workflow fit
Evaluate Apollo when finding contacts and running outreach in the same system is the main requirement. Evaluate Clay when the job is coordinating providers and research steps. Neither rule establishes superior coverage or lower cost; use the worksheet and scoped quotes to decide.
The Clay/Claude lead-enrichment example demonstrates an offline evidence check on synthetic records. It contains no ZoomInfo connector or live coverage test. A database field alone does not satisfy its source-quote requirements. Use the enrichment evaluation guide to define the evidence and acceptance rules before adapting a licensed export.
