What it is
BoomerangHR is a company-facing CRM for former employees. It builds one record per alum from your HRIS, enriches it with public career data, matches alumni against open requisitions in your ATS, and contacts the good matches before external sourcing starts. A second module, Offboarding, runs the exit itself: it triggers when the HRIS marks someone as leaving, sends a portal to their personal email with benefits, COBRA, 401(k), tax-form and equipment-return information, and runs a text-based AI exit conversation. Each completed exit becomes an alumni record, with the person’s consent.
The company is Boomerang HR, Inc., founded in June 2023, with offices in New York and Toronto. CEO Jeff Wald previously co-founded WorkMarket, which ADP acquired in 2018. BoomerangHR announced a $12.7M seed round on 14 September 2026, co-led by Kalos Ventures and Album Ventures, with Monta Vista Capital, Capital Eleven and Strada Education Foundation participating (HRKatha, 15 September 2026; vendor press release).
What is live and what is not. As of 1 November 2026, Alumni Management is generally available. Offboarding is marked “In Beta - Limited Rollout” on the vendor’s site, running with a limited group of design partners and onboarding new companies in cohorts. The press release describes “COBRA administration, 401(k) rollovers”, but the product pages show the portal surfacing COBRA deadlines and rollover options. They do not say BoomerangHR administers either one.
What it is not: an alumni social network. BoomerangHR explicitly positions itself against platforms built for alumni to network with each other, the McKinsey-style community model. It is a recruiter-side system, and alumni see outreach and the exit portal, not a community.
Why it shows up in recruiting stacks
Boomerang hires are now a large share of hiring, not an edge case. ADP payroll data showed returning employees at roughly 35% of new hires in March 2025 (reported by HR Brew, May 2025). Most companies still track alumni in a spreadsheet, or not at all. The ATS knows who applied, and the HRIS knows who left and whether they are eligible for rehire, but nothing joins the two and reaches out when a fitting req opens. BoomerangHR does that join. Matching weighs prior role, tenure, reason for leaving, manager rehire eligibility, time since exit and current role, and each match shows its reasoning.
Setup is light by design: connect the HCM through its marketplace and hand over an ATS API key. Named connectors include Workday, UKG, ADP, Dayforce, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle HCM, BambooHR and Rippling on the HR side, and Greenhouse, Lever, iCIMS, SmartRecruiters and Ashby on the ATS side. The vendor quotes about an hour of setup for one person.
Pricing reality
There is no public price list. boomeranghr.com/pricing returns a 404, and every path leads to “Book a demo”. The only anchor is the vendor’s own: it says enterprise alumni software has historically cost about $500K a year and that it prices “an order of magnitude below that”. Read that as a vendor claim pointing at a five-figure annual contract, not a verified band. No independent price data existed as of 1 November 2026.
To build the business case, use the agency fee you avoid. Agencies charge 20-25% of first-year salary, so one alumni rehire into a $120K role saves $24-30K before time-to-fill gains (see cost per hire). If you cannot name five rehires a year the tool would have sourced, the math does not close.
Best for
TA operations or People Ops leaders at companies with 2,000-50,000 employees and 15%+ annual turnover, where former staff are already returning but nobody owns the pipeline: retail, hospitality, healthcare, professional services and multi-location operators on Workday, UKG or ADP with Greenhouse or iCIMS. The scoped use case is “contact eligible alumni automatically before a req goes to an agency or job board”.
Do not buy it under about 1,000 employees. Your ATS’s former-employee tag and a quarterly email to alumni will do the job. Do not buy it if you want alumni to network with each other, or if you need COBRA or 401(k) actually administered: that stays with your benefits administrator and plan recordkeeper.
Versus the alternatives
EnterpriseAlumni and PeoplePath are the established corporate-alumni platforms, built around branded alumni portals, directories, events and job boards for large enterprises. Pick one of them when the goal is an engaged alumni community, with brand and business development as much as rehiring. Pick BoomerangHR when the goal is rehires sourced automatically from the ATS, at a lower price point.
Gem is the talent CRM most TA teams already own. You can load former employees as a pool and run talent rediscovery campaigns there. Pick Gem when you already pay for it and are willing to keep alumni data in sync by hand or by integration. Pick BoomerangHR when nobody will maintain that sync and you want HRIS-driven records plus the exit flow.
Gloat is the inverse play: an internal talent marketplace that keeps people from leaving. Buy Gloat when attrition is the problem. Buy BoomerangHR when people leave anyway and you want them back.
The cheapest option is the status quo plus a candidate rediscovery workflow pointed at a rehire-eligible export from the HRIS. That covers you up to a few dozen alumni matches a year.
Watch-outs
- Half the product is beta. Offboarding is in limited rollout with design partners. Guard: buy Alumni Management on its own merits, and write the Offboarding go-live date and scope into the order form rather than relying on the press release.
- Ranking alumni for open roles can count as an automated employment decision tool. Matching uses reason for departure and manager rehire eligibility, and both can carry bias from past manager decisions. Guard: get legal sign-off on which fields feed matching, exclude any you cannot defend, and ask whether a bias audit exists before using it for New York City roles under NYC LL 144.
- Enrichment from public career data is processing personal data of people who no longer work for you. Guard: update the employee privacy notice before go-live, confirm BoomerangHR acts as processor under your DPA (it says it does), and set a retention period for alumni who opt out.
- Seed-stage vendor, unverified logo wall. The homepage’s “Trusted by” logos may be customers or the team’s former employers. Warby Parker is the clearly named customer. Guard: ask for two references at your headcount on your HCM, and pull the SOC 2 Type II report from the Vanta trust center into security review early.
