ContractWorks is the budget-tier CLM optimized for the smallest end of the in-house market — companies that need a real contract repository, basic workflow, and e-signature but can’t justify mid-market CLM pricing. Owned by Onit since 2020, it’s positioned as a starter CLM for legal teams of one to five people.
Why it shows up in Legal Ops stacks
- Flat-rate pricing. ContractWorks bills a flat monthly rate for unlimited users, not per seat. The economics flip the typical CLM math for organizations where the user count is broad (procurement, sales ops, HR all touching contracts) but the legal team is tiny.
- Strong contract repository. Tagging, OCR’d full-text search, automated reminders for renewal and expiration dates. Covers the 80% of contract management that small teams actually need.
- Bundled e-signature with unlimited usage. Removes the marginal cost of signing more contracts as the business grows.
Pricing
ContractWorks no longer publishes pricing. Onit sells it in two packages sized by document volume — Standard starting at 1,500 documents stored and Premium starting at 10,000 — with a free trial as the only self-serve entry point and figures quoted on request.
The economics that made ContractWorks distinctive still hold: billing is flat per package with unlimited users rather than per seat, which is what makes it dramatically cheaper than per-seat CLMs once 8+ people touch contracts. Third-party trackers still circulate a $600-$1,000/month range carried over from the pre-Onit tiers. Treat that as a rough budgeting anchor only — neither the old tier names nor the old document caps match what Onit sells today, so get the current number from Onit before you plan against it.
