What it is
Qualtrics is the experience-management platform the rest of the voice-of-customer category is positioned against: survey collection, text analytics, case management, and program governance on one contract, spanning customer, employee, and market-research programs. Founded in Provo in 2002, listed in 2021, and taken private again in June 2023 by Silver Lake and CPP Investments in a $12.5B deal. The closest like-for-like is Medallia.
Two events in 2026 define what you are actually buying. Gartner published its Magic Quadrant for Voice of the Customer Platforms on 13 March 2026 naming four Leaders — Qualtrics, Medallia, Sprinklr, and Press Ganey Forsta — and placed Qualtrics highest for Ability to Execute and furthest for Completeness of Vision among the 12 vendors rated. Nine weeks later, on 18 May 2026, Qualtrics closed a $6.75B acquisition of Press Ganey Forsta, taking a second Leader off the board and adding more than 41,000 healthcare facilities. The category’s Leader field went from four to three in a single transaction, and the buyer who shortlisted two of those Leaders in April was negotiating with one vendor by June.
Why it shows up in CX stacks
- It runs the program, not just the analysis. Enterpret and Chattermill read feedback that already exists. Qualtrics collects it, opens the ticket, routes it to an owner, and tracks whether the loop closed. When the requirement includes case management and governance across more than one business unit, the shortlist is three vendors long, not fifteen.
- The 18 March 2026 release moved the listening surface past surveys. Omnichannel Experience Management shipped GA with point-and-click connectors for Genesys, NICE, and Salesforce, plus social listening for Facebook and Instagram. Automated Text Analytics, Competitive Reviews, and Experience Transparency — publishing your own first-party feedback on your own web properties — shipped GA at the same event. Personal Argentina reports manual classification work dropping from two weeks to about an hour on the text-analytics release.
- There is an official MCP server over the Public API. It is documented at
api.qualtrics.com, authenticates via OAuth authorization-code grant, and requires a Brand Admin to pre-register the client in OAuth Client Manager — Qualtrics moved off Dynamic Client Registration in April 2026 for security reasons. Surveys, responses, and distributions are reachable from Claude Code or Cursor under brand-level governance. Note the direction: this exposes Qualtrics data to your agents, not the reverse. - One contract covers three buying centers. CX packages are CX Foundational, Frontline Digital, Frontline Care, and Frontline Locations; employee experience is Employee Engagement plus Talent Acquisition and Development; market research is Strategic Research plus Brand and Marketing Research. Consolidating three programs onto one paper is the reason procurement signs, and it is also the reason the number is large.
Pricing reality
Nothing is published. The pricing page carries no rate, no minimum, and no tier prices — every product routes to a “Request Pricing” form, checked on 17 September 2026. CX is metered on interactions, which the vendor defines as “a data record collected or/and processed by Qualtrics to deliver XM insights and drive optimal actions.” Employee experience is metered on employee count, and market research on interactions including survey responses and minutes of video feedback.
Vendr’s verified-contract data puts the median Qualtrics deal at roughly $30,000/yr across 317 purchases, in a range of about $6,880 to $139,920, last updated February 2026, with average negotiated savings near 11%. That median is the only dollar figure here backed by aggregated transaction data; the five-figure-to-six-figure spread is real and driven by interaction volume, module count, and term length.
There is a free account, and it is not the product: 3 active surveys, 30 questions per survey, 500 responses, 8 question types, no expiry and no card. It is a survey tool for a class project or a one-off pulse. It does not grow into XM — that path runs through procurement.
Model the meter, not the seat count. Adding call transcripts and social to an existing survey program multiplies interactions without adding a single user. Get the interaction definition per product, the included annual volume, the overage rate, and a ceiling on the renewal uplift in writing before signing; annual uplifts at 5% or more are standard practice on renewal in this category.
Best for
CX and XM program owners at enterprises above roughly 2,000 employees who are buying a program — collection, case management, and governance across multiple business units, with a named owner and a budget line — rather than a feedback dashboard. Since 18 May 2026 it is also the default for healthcare systems that want patient, employee, and CAHPS reporting on the same contract, which is what the Press Ganey Forsta install base buys.
Do not buy it to put an NPS number on a dashboard. At the $30,000 median you are funding program infrastructure you will not staff, and if nobody’s job title contains “experience” or “insights,” the license outlives its champion and auto-renews. Teams arriving from Delighted’s shutdown are the specific case: you were running a survey tool, and the vendor’s own sunset notice points here — that is a routing suggestion, not an assessment of your requirements.
Versus the alternatives
Medallia is the other incumbent by install base and a Leader for the fifth consecutive cycle, credited by Gartner with frontline tooling used by more than seven million people weekly. It is also the one to price ownership risk against: on 22 April 2026 a creditor group took control from Thoma Bravo in a debt-for-equity swap that wiped out roughly $5.1B of sponsor equity. Pick Medallia when frontline action is the job; get a written product-investment commitment before a multi-year term.
Sprinklr is the third remaining Leader and the pick when social and care channels carry your signal and you already run it for social — one fewer vendor and one fewer connector to maintain.
Enterpret is the fastest-growing AI-native entrant taking budget off the analysis layer, at a $36,302/yr median contract against Qualtrics’s $30,000 median for a far wider scope. Pick it when the feedback already exists in tickets and product channels and the work is reading it, not collecting it. Chattermill does the same job at a $63,500 average where reviews and app stores carry the brand signal. AskNicely is the cheaper route when NPS and frontline coaching are the whole requirement.
If none fit, run one journey on the free account for a quarter and export the responses into a Claude project. That answers the “what are customers telling us” question for the cost of an afternoon, and it tells you whether the program you would be buying has an owner.
Watch-outs
- You are buying a company mid-integration. Qualtrics notified employees of workforce cuts on 19 August 2026; a Washington WARN notice filed 2 September 2026 names 117 roles at Qualtrics Tower in Seattle with separations beginning 18 October 2026, and Provo and international reductions were not broken out. The filing attributes the action to duplicate functions after the acquisition, not performance. Five senior executives departed in April 2026. Guard: name your CSM and solution architect in the order form with a replacement-notice clause, cap the first term at one year, and ask which Press Ganey Forsta and Qualtrics products overlap in your quote and which one survives.
- The agent capability is in preview and the platform in the pitch ships in 2027. Experience Agents were announced at X4 on 18 March 2026 in preview, not GA; the TruGreen results cited for them — 51% of customer concerns addressed in the first week, escalations down more than 30% — come from that preview cohort. The XM Data and AI Platform announced on 9 September 2026 is slated for 2027. Guard: build the business case on what is GA today and write any preview capability into the contract as a dated milestone with a price adjustment if it slips.
- The interaction meter punishes a working program. The year the program succeeds is the year you add channels, and every added channel raises interactions without adding a user. Guard: model year two at double the year-one interaction volume rather than at the uplift percentage, and negotiate the overage rate at first contact when you still have the option to walk, not at renewal when you do not.
- Delighted’s shutdown is a routing decision disguised as a migration. Qualtrics retired Delighted on 30 June 2026 and redirects the domain to a one-paragraph notice pointing at Qualtrics; there is no migration tooling behind that pointer, and the two products serve different buyers. Guard: export your Delighted response history before the archive window closes, treat this as a fresh evaluation, and price at least one mid-market VoC tool in the same cycle. See Delighted for what actually happened to the product.
