What it is
lemlist is a multichannel sales engagement platform: email, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, SMS, and calls inside one sequence, with a contact database and waterfall enrichment underneath. Where Smartlead and Instantly sell sending infrastructure and expect you to bring the data and the copy, lemlist sells the whole outbound motion — find the lead, enrich it, write the personalized step, run it across channels, handle the reply. It is French, bootstrapped past $50M ARR with no outside funding, and still independent; in October 2025 it bought the call-intelligence product Claap for a reported $25M out of profit, adding call recording and conversation data to the same platform.
Why it shows up in RevOps stacks
- LinkedIn is a first-class step, not a bolt-on. Connection requests, messages, voice notes, and profile visits run in the same sequence as email, so a rep’s cadence doesn’t fragment across two tools with two reporting surfaces.
- An official MCP server. lemlist ships an MCP server exposing 40+ tools — lead search, enrichment, sequence creation, campaign launch, analytics — so Claude, Cursor, or Windsurf can drive outbound directly. Among the sending tools in this catalog, neither Smartlead nor Instantly has shipped one.
- Data and sending on one invoice. The contact database and enrichment are included in the plan rather than sold as a second subscription, which is exactly the line item that makes Instantly’s all-in-one claim into two bills.
Pricing reality
Two published lines that price on completely different axes. Getting this wrong is the most common way to overpay here.
Email is priced by monthly send volume with unlimited users and unlimited email senders: $69/mo for 50K emails, $89 for 100K, $159 for 200K, $359 for 500K, $659 for 1M. Annual billing takes those to $55, $80, $127, $287, and $527. Contacts are unlimited, and the database, deliverability hub, warm-up, and MCP server are included.
Multichannel Expert is per seat: $109/user/mo, $99 on quarterly, $87 on annual, with 5 email senders per user plus the LinkedIn, SMS, and dialer steps the Email plan does not carry. WhatsApp is an add-on. Enterprise is quote-only with a 5-seat minimum.
The consequence is a real fork. Six reps running LinkedIn steps pay $6,264/year on annual Multichannel Expert. The same six sending 200K emails a month with no LinkedIn steps pay $1,524/year. Price the channel mix, not the headcount.
Best for
- Outbound teams of roughly 2-15 reps running genuine multichannel sequences, where the LinkedIn touch does real work — not teams optimizing raw email throughput.
- GTM engineers who want an agent to run outbound. The MCP server turns “build this sequence and launch it against these 200 accounts” into a prompt instead of a UI session.
- Teams that want one vendor for data, sending, and now call recording rather than assembling Apollo plus Smartlead plus a notetaker.
Versus the alternatives
Apollo is the top alternative by share, with a larger database and a built-in sequencer at a lower entry price. Pick Apollo when data volume and cost per seat dominate the decision; pick lemlist when multichannel steps are the point and Apollo’s sequencer is the weak half of that bundle.
Smartlead and Instantly are the sending-infrastructure poles and the other two heavyweights in this segment. Both give you unlimited mailboxes at a flat fee and cost less per sent email at high volume. Pick either when you run one channel — email — at scale across many domains. Pick lemlist when the alternative is buying a second tool for LinkedIn.
HeyReach is the fastest-growing entrant on the LinkedIn side: LinkedIn-only, priced per sender rather than per user, which lands cheaper for agencies running many LinkedIn accounts. Pick HeyReach when LinkedIn is the whole motion and email belongs to someone else’s tool; pick lemlist when both channels have to sit in one sequence with one reply inbox.
If you send under 1,000 emails a month from a single domain and have no LinkedIn motion, skip all of these. Whatever sequencer already ships with your CRM covers it.
Watch-outs
- The database-size claim is not consistent across lemlist’s own pages. The pricing page says 650M+ leads, the AI info page says 600M+, and the MCP page says 450M+ contacts. Guard: run your actual ICP through the 14-day trial and count what comes back verified, and keep a dedicated data vendor behind it for named accounts.
- The Email plan excludes the multichannel steps that are the reason to buy lemlist. The $69 entry price is an email-only product. Guard: if LinkedIn is in the plan, price Multichannel Expert per seat from day one — the upgrade is a different plan, not an add-on you can switch on later at the margin.
- Per-seat multichannel scales worse than per-volume sending. Past roughly 10 reps the annual bill overtakes Smartlead or Instantly plus a separate LinkedIn tool. Guard: model both shapes at your rep count and channel mix before you sign, and re-run the math whenever headcount moves.
- Call intelligence arrived by acquisition, not by native build. Claap joined in October 2025 and the join with sequences is still shallower than a dedicated conversation-intelligence tool. Guard: if call coaching is a primary requirement rather than a bonus, evaluate Gong on its own merits instead of counting on the bundle to cover it.
