What it is
GetReal Security sells deepfake and impersonation detection for live calls, and its hiring product answers one question: is the person on this video interview a real person on a real camera, and the same person as last round? The recruiting use is GetReal Protect pointed at interviews. It runs inside Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex, and Zoom, flags face swaps and AI voice changers while the call is in progress, pushes a prompt to the host, and checks participants against threat intelligence on known imposters and do-not-hire lists. The vendor names DPRK IT workers as a target pattern.
GetReal is a security company first. Digital-forensics researcher Hany Farid co-founded it and serves as Chief Science Officer, and Matt Moynahan is CEO. It raised a $17.5M Series A in March 2025, led by Forgepoint Capital, with Cisco Investments, Capital One Ventures, Ballistic Ventures, Evolution Equity, K2 Access Fund, and In-Q-Tel participating. The product lineup is Protect (live communications), Inspect (forensic verification of files), Prepare, and Respond (expert incident response). The buyer is usually the CISO. Hiring is one of several surfaces, alongside help-desk social engineering, contact-centre fraud, and executive impersonation.
Why it shows up in recruiting stacks now
- It wrote the statistic everyone quotes. GetReal’s December 11, 2025 report says 41% of respondents’ companies had hired and onboarded a fraudulent candidate. Read the method before you put that in a deck: GetReal ran the survey itself in September 2025, and the 668 respondents were IT, cybersecurity, fraud, and risk leaders at companies with 1,000+ employees, not recruiters. It shows the problem reaches the security team. It is not a measured fraud rate.
- Continuous identity verification went GA on May 18, 2026. After an enrollment step that requires the participant’s consent, Protect keeps checking face and voice through the call without further action. For hiring, that is what separates GetReal from a one-time ID check. It can tell you whether the final-round candidate is the person who passed the screen, which is exactly where proxy interviewers work.
- Analysts and the RPO channel took notice in 2026. GetReal joined the Recruitment Process Outsourcing Association as a Silver Partner in May 2026. In July it announced a Market Shaper placement in the 2026 Gartner Emerging Market Quadrant for Deepfake Detection — Startup Vendors, sitting farthest right on the potential-for-market-disruption axis.
- It covers identity attacks well beyond hiring. The May 2026 release lists 40+ native integrations, including Okta, Microsoft Entra, and CyberArk, and the September 2025 release added SIEM and SOAR hooks with an Identity Threat Graph that maps where a flagged identity has shown up. When the security team already owns this platform, hiring coverage is an extension of it, not a new vendor.
Pricing reality
GetReal publishes no prices. Every pricing path on its site goes to a demo request, and a dated September 2026 comparison of deepfake-detection vendors confirms there is no public figure. A free-trial offer sits on the fake-candidate page. The complimentary hiring-use access that ran through December 31, 2025 has ended.
The billing unit matters more than the rate, so get it on the first call: does GetReal meter monitored users, meeting hosts, meetings, or enrolled identities? A recruiting team hosts few meetings but moves thousands of candidates, so the same deployment prices very differently under a per-host meter than under a per-identity one.
For scale, here is what the alternatives that do publish prices charge. Persona starts at $250/month for 500 verifications. Checkr adds identity verification to a $29.99 Basic report for $4.99. Reality Defender’s self-serve Builder API plan is $399/month billed annually for 1,000 scans. Our verdict: an enterprise contract bought for hiring alone is hard to defend against a $4.99 check at offer. GetReal pays off when the CISO already funds it for help-desk and executive impersonation and hiring rides on that contract.
Best for
An enterprise TA leader, working with the security team, who hires remote engineers, IT admins, or finance staff into roles with privileged access, runs interviews on Teams, Webex, or Zoom, and already has an identity gate in place. For that team, GetReal closes the gap between rounds that a single ID check leaves open.
Do not buy it if you make fewer than about 50 remote hires a year with no security partner, if your interviews run on Google Meet, or if you hire in person for hourly roles.
Watch-outs
- A deepfake flag is a probability, and base rates make most flags wrong. When real fraud is rare, even an accurate detector produces flags that mostly land on legitimate candidates. The arithmetic is worked through in the interview-fraud screening skill. Guard: in the hiring policy, set Protect to prompt the host and preserve evidence, and turn auto-eject off for candidate calls. Route every flag to an identity re-check, never to a rejection.
- Face-and-voice verification collects biometric identifiers. Illinois BIPA covers face geometry and voiceprints, and Illinois-based roles also fall under the AI Video Interview Act, which requires notice and consent before AI analysis of interview video. Guard: put notice and a written release in the interview invite, apply enrollment to every candidate on the requisition, and get retention and deletion terms into the contract before the pilot.
- Coverage stops at the three named platforms. GetReal’s releases name Teams, Webex, and Zoom, plus unspecified voice systems. Google Meet and async video-interview tools are not on that list. Guard: map where every interview round actually happens, and make coverage of each one a written pilot exit criterion.
- You are buying from a roughly 60-person startup with an opaque price. Guard: co-own the contract with security, cap the first term at 12 months, and pilot on one high-risk requisition family with a before-and-after count of confirmed fraud cases.
Alternatives, and when to pick them instead
- An identity gate first — Persona, or CLEAR inside Greenhouse Real Talent. Pick this when you can fund only one control. A document-and-liveness check at a named stage proves who the person is. GetReal detects synthetic media and inconsistency, which is a different claim. See AI interview fraud for why the gate comes before the detector.
- Pindrop Pulse for Meetings. Generally available since November 2025 on Zoom, Webex, and Teams, with passive voice authentication and geolocation signals. Pick it when phone screens and voice are your main exposure, or when your contact centre already runs Pindrop.
- Reality Defender. Runs real-time detection inside Zoom and Teams and is the only detection vendor here with self-serve API tiers. Pick it to test detection on recorded interview clips before a sales cycle, or to build detection into your own interview tooling.
- iProov Verified Meetings. The newest entrant, announced May 19, 2026. It shows the host a red, amber, or green status, checks for a physical camera versus a virtual one, and does not notify the participant. Pick it when you already use iProov biometrics elsewhere in the workforce.
If none of these fit because interviews are in person, you have no detection problem to buy for. See the hiring integrity stack for where a detection layer sits against application scoring, the identity gate, and post-offer screening.
