What it is
SurveyMonkey is the mass-market survey platform: a self-serve builder, a free tier, team plans billed per seat, and an Enterprise tier that adds the Salesforce integration, SSO, HIPAA support and API access. Founded in 1999, it ran as the listed company Momentive until an investor group led by STG took it private in 2023 and restored the SurveyMonkey name. The company says it handles more than 2 million survey responses a day. In CX terms it sits between the free form builders (Google Forms, Microsoft Forms) and the program platforms (Qualtrics, Medallia).
On 1 September 2026 it relaunched as “Today’s SurveyMonkey”: a conversational builder where you describe the survey in plain language, AI that adjusts questions and logic as you go, automatic plain-language findings once responses land, and a redesigned interface. Workday and BambooHR integrations came with it, so employee surveys can target by department, location and tenure from live HRIS data. An overhauled Benchmarks feature, comparing your scores against similar organizations, is promised “before the end of the year” and was not live when this page was written.
Why it shows up in Customer Success stacks
- It sits inside the AI tools your team already uses. A Claude connector built on MCP launched on 5 May 2026 and a ChatGPT plugin on 12 August 2026. Both create and send surveys from a prompt and read response trends without an export. A Gemini Enterprise connector is announced, not shipped. Neither release says which SurveyMonkey plan the connectors require; check before you promise the workflow to a team on Team Advantage.
- Anyone can run a pulse survey without a ticket. The conversational builder, the template library and the free tier mean a CSM can field a churn-reason or onboarding survey this afternoon. That is the job Qualtrics is too heavy for.
- It is the vendor behind GetFeedback. SurveyMonkey bought GetFeedback in 2019. Competitor sources quoting SurveyMonkey’s own FAQ say GetFeedback Direct, the Salesforce-native survey product, is sunset on 31 December 2026, with SurveyMonkey Enterprise as the migration path; GetFeedback Digital, the web and in-app product, continues as plain “GetFeedback.” If your CSAT program runs on Direct, this page is your default shortlist entry, not your only one.
Pricing reality
Checked 19 October 2026, the pricing page served euros to our connection: Team Advantage at €30 per user per month and Team Premier at €75, both billed annually, three-user minimum, with 50,000 and 100,000 responses a year and €0.10 per extra response. Individual plans run Standard Monthly €39/mo (1,000 responses a month), Advantage Annual €432/yr and Premier Annual €1,188/yr. A Formbricks capture of the US page on 15 August 2026 shows $30 and $92 per user per month for the two team tiers and $0.15 per overage response; the site prices by region, so confirm the number your billing entity sees.
The tier that matters for CS is Enterprise, and it is quote-only. SurveyMonkey for Salesforce, SSO, SCIM, HIPAA compliance, EU and Canadian data centers, direct API access and SMS distribution are all listed as Enterprise features in the help center. Vendr’s contract data puts the median SurveyMonkey deal at $16,336 a year, in a range of about $6,498 to $40,600 across 199 purchases (updated February 2026), with buyers saving about 18% off the first quote. That is roughly half the $30,000 Vendr median for Qualtrics.
Best for
CS and CX leads at companies of roughly 50 to 2,000 employees who need relationship NPS, onboarding and churn-reason surveys, and occasional employee pulses, run by the team itself rather than a program office. The Enterprise tier is the right pick for a Salesforce shop leaving GetFeedback Direct that wants to stay with the same vendor and accepts a migration rather than a cutover.
Do not buy it for transactional CSAT fired on every ticket close — a support-desk-native tool does that with less plumbing — and do not buy it if you need case management, closed-loop routing to an account owner and governance across business units. That is an experience-management program, and SurveyMonkey is a survey tool with good AI on top.
Versus the alternatives
- Qualtrics — the market-share leader on the program end and the default when collection, case management and governance must sit on one contract with a named owner. Expect about twice SurveyMonkey’s median spend, and a vendor still integrating Press Ganey Forsta.
- Google Forms and Microsoft Forms — the volume leaders at the low end, already paid for in your productivity suite. Pick them for internal, one-off questionnaires where nobody needs NPS logic, benchmarks or a CRM write-back.
- Typeform — pick it when the survey is customer-facing and completion rate on a one-question-per-screen form matters more than analysis depth.
- Sprig — pick it for in-product surveys triggered by user behavior; SurveyMonkey’s strength is email and link distribution, not in-app targeting.
- AskNicely, Simplesat or Customer Thermometer — pick these when the whole requirement is a single metric fired from the help desk or a CRM event. See Delighted for published tier prices from our August check.
- Enterpret or Chattermill — pick these when the gap is reading feedback that already exists in tickets and reviews, not collecting more. Both ingest SurveyMonkey responses.
If none fit, run the free tier for one quarter and export responses into a Claude project. That tells you whether anyone acts on the feedback before you buy seats.
Watch-outs
- The Salesforce integration lives on Enterprise only. Team plans do not include SurveyMonkey for Salesforce or direct API access, so a seat-priced quote can look cheap and then fail the CRM requirement. Guard: put “survey response writes to the Account and Case objects” in the RFP as a pass/fail line, and test it in the trial on a sandbox org before signing.
- GetFeedback Direct migrations are not like-for-like. Competitor write-ups report that the Enterprise path takes about 90 days and maps to Salesforce differently from Direct; these come from vendors selling alternatives, so treat the detail as unverified. Guard: export every Direct survey, response and report before December, get the migration timeline and object mapping in writing, and price at least one Salesforce-native alternative in the same cycle.
- AI connectors read whatever the connected account can see. A Claude or ChatGPT user with access to an employee-engagement survey can pull its verbatims into a chat. Guard: split CX and employee surveys into separate workgroups or divisions, and connect AI tools with an account scoped to customer surveys only.
- Overage and seat minimums make the list price a floor. Three seats is the minimum on team plans, and responses past the annual cap bill per response. Guard: model year one at your real response volume plus a 30% margin, and ask for the overage rate to be capped in the order form.
